Ford must stop restricting access to rapid tests in KW: Fife and Lindo

WATERLOO – MPPs Catherine Fife (Waterloo) and Laura Mae Lindo (Kitchener Centre) released the following statement in response to the Ford government cutting off access to COVID-19 rapid test kits that were available to community members and parents as part of the Communitech Stay Safe Ambassador Program.

“In the absence of provincial leadership, Waterloo Region stepped up to make sure there was broad access to COVID-19 asymptomatic rapid testing to keep people safe.

It is appalling that Ford has cut off all access to rapid tests for thousands of community members because he learned that some of the test kits were being used by families who just want to make sure their children are safe at school.

Kitchener-Waterloo residents answered the call to keep their communities safe, Ford must stop putting up barriers and allow them to continue to access rapid tests. It makes no sense to be reducing access to COVID-19 testing during the fourth wave.

Further, Ford must stop pinching pennies, listen to parents, and implement a comprehensive rapid testing program for all Ontario schools to make sure students are safe in the classroom.”
