Statement from MPP Percy Hatfield announcing his retirement in 2022

WINDSOR – MPP Percy Hatfield (Windsor – Tecumseh) released the following statement announcing his decision not to run in the 2022 provincial election:

“After careful consideration, I have decided to retire at the end of my term in office and not seek re-election in 2022. Serving as the MPP for Windsor—Tecumseh has been a great honour and I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by my constituents over these past eight years, but I believe it is now time for me to step aside and make room for new voices from our community.

I look back on my time in office with great satisfaction. I have worked and lobbied hard everyday to bring the priorities of our community to the legislature, and to tackle the big issues facing workers and families in Windsor, Tecumseh and across Ontario. I am particularly proud to have established Ontario’s first Poet Laureate, and for the privilege to serve as a deputy speaker in the Ontario legislature.

My retirement makes room for diverse new voices to step forward and continue the work of making our community and our province a better place to live. I am excited to pass the baton to the next MPP – who I am certain will be a fearless and hardworking New Democrat. I look forward to spending more quality time with Gale and our six wonderful grandchildren.

I am proud of all the work I have done with Andrea Horwath and the great team she has assembled at Queen’s Park, and I want to thank her for her steadfast leadership throughout my time in office. I firmly believe Andrea and the Ontario NDP will form the next government, and I will be proudly cheering her on in 2022.

From now until the election, my staff and I will continue to provide the exemplary constituency service you have come to expect and appreciate.”
